Penelope "Pitstop" McKay entered her emus painting AKA 'A Family Portrait' in the Open Section (any medium/any subject) of the 2010 Annual Townsville Show. Her painting was up against some excellent competition, however, her technical skill, attention to fine detail, subject placement, and choice of colours won over the Judge, who awarded her First Place in the Section.
The painting was then judged alongside the other Section winners for the Champion Painting Sash and again the Judge determined that Penny's painting was worthy of the overall 2010 Townsville Show Champion Painting!!
After learning of her success Penny said, "I am just thrilled to bits! Everything has gone really well despite having a such a heavy workload with my fulltime (Contemporary Arts) course at TAFE this year. I am so pleased and so, so proud."
She also learned that she was just pipped at the post for the People's Choice Award . . .

Penny has been encouraged to join the Townsville Arts Society, where she can display samples of her artwork. She can also have the benefit of taking part in an upcomming Art Exhibition at the Townsville RSL.
